Famed poet T.S. He said households depend on cats, which is sort of true. If you have a cat that is healthy and behaves well, your whole household will benefit. Unfortunately, some cats do not fit this "perfect" mold. Have a better time living with your cat through these tips.

Why should you get a cat from a cat shelter?

If you want to have the love of a cat, get one from a shelter. Shelters have great pets available for adoption, and the fee isn't that high. By choosing a cat from an animal shelter, you can do your part to help with overpopulation. Also, you become a lifesaver!

Taking your cats to the vets

A vet trip should happen for your cat yearly. Your cat should receive shots regularly to prevent health issues. Make sure you keep the same veterinarian for your pet throughout its life. Your veterinarian needs to know about your pet's history, and your cat will feel more comfortable if you always take her to the same vet.

Spaying female cats

If your cat is female, you need to get it spayed at the proper age. You may believe that this is unnecessary if your cat stays inside all the time; however, cats almost always find a way to get outside, especially when they are in heat. When this occurs, your cat could get pregnant. Getting your cat spayed is a great way to stop this from going on.

Outdoor Cats

If your cat ventures outdoors, it's key to get your cat a collar which has a contact tag. Cats can travel a long way and this will help you get them back easier if they're lost. At the very least, you should include your contact info and the name of your cat on the tag.  Also if your cat spends quite a lot of time out of the house then you should consider buying and outdoor cat house so it will always be warm and happy.

Entertaining your cat

Don't allow your cat to get bored too often. Cats need stimulation. A lot of cat owners do not keep their cats busy. Bored cats can really be a problem. They can have health issues, OCD, and even depression. Give them exercise space and a lot of toys. If your cats are kept inside, set up a carpet lined scratching pad or post. There are many climbing structures that can be purchased or made for cats who enjoy heights.

While cats can be finicky and demanding, loving and taking care of a cat can be very rewarding. The advice above can be beneficial to the owner of a lazy cat, the owner of a hyperactive cat, or the owner of something in between. Your cat will soon be purring in anticipation.
